The documentary film SÃO VENDELINO sets out to search for the outdated remains of German emigration, settlement and colonial projects. The inhabitants of the small enclave of São Vendelino in southern Brazil have remained surprisingly resistant to external influences and, even after 200 years, still meticulously maintain their Saarland culture and language. At the annual festival, lederhosen are worn and pretzels eaten, and the most beautiful of all "dirndl women" is chosen as the fair queen. Is this the "German Dream"?
