Der Filmemacher hat als Kind sexualisierte Gewalt durch einen Verwandten erlebt, in der Zeit, in der er an der Seite seiner Mutter, beide als Laiendarsteller/innen, in einem Film mitgespielt hat. Sie spielten sich selbst. Der Film handelte von den Sehnsüchten des Kindes und erzählte von der Beziehung einer jungen aufstrebenden Mutter zu ihrem Sohn. LETTER TO MY MOTHER ist jetzt Amin Mahers eigener Film, adressiert an die Mutter. Wie lässt sich mit der Vergangenheit umgehen? LETTER TO MY MOTHER ist die Entscheidung für eine radikale, persönliche Perspektive. Eine Auseinandersetzung, die tief an Schmerzpunkten rührt und genau hinsieht, die Verzweiflung und Grausamkeit in exakte Bilder fasst und schonungslos nach Möglichkeiten der Bearbeitung sucht."

LETTER TO MY MOTHER chooses a radically intimate perspective. It is an examination that touches upon the center of the pain and that dares to look precisely. It finds exact scenes for despair and cruelty and searches openly for ways of coping.
